VSP Spotlight: Briarcliff Boys Basketball

This week, our VSP spotlight shines not on an individual, but on the entire Briarcliff High School boys basketball team.

The team has significantly elevated their commitment and work ethic this offseason in preparation for the 2024-2025 season. Under the guidance of VSP coach Kyle Smith, the players have been engaging in intensive training sessions twice a week, each lasting an hour and fifteen minutes.

These sessions are meticulously designed to be both focused and challenging.

Here’s an overview:

Each training session begins with a warm-up emphasizing mobility and range of motion.

Following this, we concentrate on two primary components:

  1. Increasing muscular strength in the upper and lower body, as well as the core:

2. Enhancing lower body explosiveness:

In addition to these foundational elements, we prioritize strengthening the knee and ankle joints to promote player health and minimize injuries, ensuring they can remain on the court throughout the season. This focus is a vital aspect of our pre-season training phase.

Just in the past month, the average vertical jump height has increased by 5 inches…

We are incredibly proud of the team for their unwavering dedication and hard work as they prepare for the upcoming competitive season. We eagerly anticipate witnessing the fruits of their labor when the season begins.

Keep up the great work, Bears!
