VSP Spotlight: Mamaroneck & Preds Attack – Brian Auker
Brian Auker, a 5’11” 160 LBS lacrosse player, has been training at VSP since the winter of 2021 and took his focus and dedication to another level this fall. The Mamaroneck High School and Preds Lacrosse product has been working extremely hard to increase his speed, strength, and power. Let’s just say, it’s paying off!
Brian’s training program was unique. We decided to execute a 3-2 hybrid program involving 3 days of auxiliary lifting at home and 2 in-house speed focused sessions each week.
For a more visual idea of what this looked like, see this chart below:

Let’s take a deeper look at how much improvement Brian has seen within the past couple of months of his training.
The way we do this process here at VSP is through our Velocity Integrated Performance Report (ViPR)

This report allows you to have your measurables at your fingertips! No need to leave any of your training to feel – with ViPR, you know where you stand. ViPR tracks your progress month over month, year over year…
So, lets see exactly where Brian improved:
Speed

Brian increased his top running speed by 1 MPH from 17 MPH to 18 MPH. Thus, allowing him to decrease his 10 Yard Dash time from 1.72 seconds to 1.61 seconds. Both of these metrics are well above the average for athletes his age.
Power

In addition to his speed increasing, through explosive plyometric work, Brian’s lower half power capacity skyrocketed. As a matter of fact… Brian increased his metrics on ALL 6 lower half power tests within our assessment. Again, all of which registered well above the average for athletes of his age.
Strength

Lastly, his at home lifting program most definitely yielded in strength gains. His upper and lower body strength metrics increased on tests such as: push ups, upper body ISO push, and belt squat ISO. During this time, Brian was able to take one of his lowest hanging fruits (ISO push and belt squat = below average) and turn it into a strength. (ISO push and belt squat = above average)
Brian, an unbelievably skilled lacrosse player, can now pair his advanced skillset with his newfound speed, power, and strength gains. Combining the two can allow him to create an even more elevated skillset and gameplan to use on the field as he continues to play better competition.

The question remains – How will he keep these incredible gains while playing during the season?
The answer – IN-SEASON TRAINING!

Brian has committed to working in-house 1x per week in addition to his busy game and practice schedule in order to maintain his improved speed, power, and strength metrics. The sky’s the limit for this guy and we are super excited to see how he continues to grow and progress.
Keep it up Brian!
