VSP Spotlight – The Summer College Athlete Team
This week’s VSP Spotlight shines on more than just one individual — it highlights a team forged this past summer at VSP. Our college athlete group was composed of athletes from over 30 different college programs, each bringing their own unique background, sport, and energy. Despite their differences, they built a unified bond and commitment that paid dividends in their athletic development.

Where Are They From?
As mentioned, our summer college group represented a wide range of schools. Here are just a few:
- Rutgers University
- University of Massachusetts
- Loyola University
- Lehigh University
- Clemson University
- Duke University
- Johns Hopkins University
- University at Albany
- Siena College
- Marist College
- Swarthmore College
- SUNY Cortland
- …and many more.

What Was the Goal?
Simple: FASTER. STRONGER. BETTER
We set out to build the most elite group of college athletes VSP has ever seen—and send them back to campus ready to compete.

But the execution was anything but simple. It was tactical and precise.
- Spring sport athletes needed recovery from their seasons.
- Fall/winter athletes needed to prep for high-load training.
Once physically and mentally ready—it was go time.
Hi/Low CNS Model
New this summer: the High/Low CNS (Central Nervous System) Model.

This approach stacks high-intensity training (speed + strength) on the same day, allowing for deeper recovery between sessions. It maximizes output on high days and recovery on low days.
Weekly Breakdown:

What Did We Focus On?
Our key performance goals:
- Full-body strength and power
- Acceleration capacity
- Top-end speed
- Aerobic capacity (conditioning)

Training Structure:
- 1 Day: Anterior Chain Strength + Acceleration Sprint Work
- 1 Day: Posterior Chain Strength + Top Speed Sprint Work
- 2 Days: Full Kinetic Chain Power + Conditioning Speed Work
- 1 Day: Full Body Recovery
Baseline Testing Metrics:
- Mid Thigh Pull Force Test – Strength Output
- Vertical Jump – Vertical Power
- Broad Jump – Horizontal Power
- 10-Yard Dash – Acceleration
- 40-Yard Dash – Max Velocity

What Improved?
Every athlete progresses differently, but as a unit, the gains were undeniable:
Strength/Force Output
- MTP: ↑ 15%
Power
- Vertical Jump: ↑ 7.15%
- Broad Jump: ↑ 4.85%
Speed
- 10-Yard Dash (Acceleration): ↑ 2.24%
- 40-Yard Dash (Max Velocity): ↑ 3.27%
These results are a testament to the effort, consistency, and intensity this group brought every single day.

A True Performance Team: Multiple Coaching Perspectives
One of the most powerful aspects of training at Velocity is the depth of coaching our athletes are exposed to. Unlike a traditional personal training setup, Velocity operates like a collegiate Strength & Conditioning department, offering a performance team approach that mirrors what athletes experience at the highest levels of sport.
Program Design
Led by our Directors:
- Coach Jake Lebovitch
- Coach Jordan Bledsoe
These two crafted the summer program with precision, ensuring every athlete had a clear path to improvement based on their sport, season, and individual needs.
Weekly Coaching & Execution
Delivered by our elite coaching staff:
- Coach Jake
- Coach Andre
- Coach Matt
- Coach Corinne
- Coach Devin
- Coach Jordan
Each coach brought their own expertise, style, and perspective—giving athletes a multi-dimensional coaching experience that few facilities can offer.
This collaborative model allows athletes to receive feedback from multiple voices, just like they would in their college S&C departments. It fosters adaptability, deeper learning, and a more complete understanding of their training.
This is something only an operation of our scope can execute effectively. It’s not just training—it’s development at scale, powered by a team of professionals working together to elevate every athlete who walks through our doors.
With fall seasons approaching, we can’t wait to see how these gains translate to performance on the field.
